Session 10 - "Sushi House"
Here is a detailed account of who did what and how they did it in the D&D notes:
The Party as a Group:
- Walked through a portal to Sigil: The entire group traveled through a portal that took them to Sigil, the city of doors.
- Emerged in a hipster cafe: They appeared inside the broom closet of a cafe in Sigil.
- Talked to the cafe owner (Gear): The group spoke with the owner of the cafe, Gear, who told them about Smith and Anette Verona.
- Received the key to Smith’s house: Verona (impersonating Anette) was given the key to Smith’s house.
- Were shown a map of Sigil: They saw that Sigil is shaped like a donut or torus.
- Traveled to Smith’s house: The group made their way from the market ward to the clerk’s ward where Smith’s house was located.
- Entered Smith’s trashed house: They found the inside of the house overflowing with trash.
- Discovered a portrait of Antoinette: They found a large portrait of Antoinette covered in 30 years of seen.
- Found magical rings: Within the seen at the base of the portrait, they discovered some magical rings which they cleaned and took.
- Discovered a blocked-off portal: Someone with x-ray vision saw a portal in one of the back rooms that was entirely blocked off by trash.
- Heard shuffling in the trash: The group heard something crawling through the trash near the hidden portal.
- Attempted to clear the trash: Several members worked to clear a path to the portal.
- Discussed the nature of the second portal: They speculated about its destination and how to use it.
- Attempted to reconstruct the broken portal: After Bar broke the portal, the group worked together to try and piece it back together using the magnetic bricks, with Phil supervising and giving directions.
- Decided to leave Smith’s house: Due to the smell and lack of progress with the portal, the group decided to find lodging for the evening.
- Started to head towards an inn: The party collectively began to walk towards a more comfortable place to stay.
Gus:
- Used a spell to detect the portal: Gus was the one who used a spell and saw the portal hidden behind the trash.
- Was inside the room with the trash: He was present with Old Greg when the portal was first discovered.
- Observed the wall of trash: He was standing in front of the trash pile, unsure of what to do.
- Confirmed the presence of the portal: He exclaimed that there was a portal behind the wall of trash.
- Stuck his head through the reconstructed portal: Gus put his head through the rebuilt portal and saw the same trash-filled room on the other side.
- Possibly suggested throwing Peral through the portal: Based on the context of Verona stopping someone from doing this.
Old Greg:
- Was inside the room with the trash: He was present with Gus when the portal was first discovered.
- Was asked to clear the trash: Another character (unnamed at that moment) suggested Greg clear out the trash.
Bob:
- Expressed impatience: Bob was impatient about the delay in getting to the portal.
- Wandered off and smelled decay: He went into another room and smelled something like death or decay, likely from old food.
- Was oblivious to the sounds in the trash: While others heard shuffling, Bob was wandering off and did not notice.
- Was angry and hungry: He was upset about the lack of edible food in the house.
- Helped clear the trash: Bob aided Bar in scooping out the trash to create a path to the portal.
- Leaned on the edge of the portal and broke it: Bar leaned on the portal, causing it to fall into pieces.
- Helped reconstruct the portal: Bob assisted Greg in trying to keep the magnetic bricks separated and in place.
AR:
- Attempted to find salvageable food: AR tried to see if there was any edible food amongst the trash using a survival check but found mostly moldy items.
- Discovered the fruitcake: AR found a half-eaten fruitcake that looked perfectly preserved.
- Identified the “Brute Cake”: Using survival and history checks, AR determined the fruitcake smelled of sulfur, might be from the Nine Hells or the Abyss, and named it “The Brute Cake”.
- Decided to take the fruitcake: Despite its ominous nature, Bar decided to take the fruitcake.
Verona (the Player Character):
- Impersonated Anette Verona: Verona pretended to be the love interest Smith was waiting for.
- Received the key to Smith’s house: As “Anette,” she was given the key.
- Was shown a map of Sigil: She saw the donut shape of the city.
- Canvassed a neighbor’s house with Peral: Verona and Peral went to a neighbor’s house.
- Encountered Mrs. Wasowski: Verona was present when Peral spoke with the fish lady, Mrs. Wasowski.
- Experienced a strong smell of tuna: Verona was hit by the pungent smell emanating from Mrs. Wasowski.
- Witnessed Mrs. Wasowski’s infected leg: Verona saw the green discharge dripping from her leg.
- Experienced the Wasowski’s house and Mr. Wasowski’s proposition: Verona followed Mrs. Wasowski to her house and was propositioned by Mr. Wasowski.
- Became Charmed by Mrs. Wasowski: Verona was under the influence of a charm.
- Engaged in a charmed encounter with Mrs. Wasowski: This was described in suggestive detail.
- Broke free from the charm: Verona felt a sting, and the charm wore off.
- Attacked and killed Mr. and Mrs. Wasowski: Verona, disgusted by the experience, violently attacked and killed both fish people with a sword.
- Looted the Wasowski’s house: Verona collected a significant amount of treasure (500 gold pieces and 50,000 gold pieces worth of other valuables).
- Returned to Smith’s house: Verona rejoined the rest of the group at the broken portal.
- Prevented someone from throwing Peral through the portal: Verona intervened to stop this action.
- Was unhelpful in reconstructing the portal: Verona was described as causing more trouble than aid during the reconstruction.
- Disguised herself as a pale elf and walked backward through the reconstructed portal: Verona changed her appearance and tested the portal.
- Shared her looted wealth with the group (partially): Verona mentioned having $400 to contribute to finding a cleaning crew.
Peral:
- Was initially outside Smith’s house: Peral was not inside when the second portal was first discovered.
- Was called down by Fu (impersonating someone): Peral was summoned to join the others.
- Canvassed a neighbor’s house with Verona: Peral and Verona went to a neighbor’s house.
- Knocked on Mrs. Wasowski’s door: Peral performed the action of knocking.
- Spoke with Mrs. Wasowski: Peral had a conversation with the fish lady about the previous owner.
- Observed Mrs. Wasowski’s infection: Peral also saw the discharge from her leg.
- Offered to help Mrs. Wasowski with groceries: Peral volunteered to go to the market for her.
- Returned to Smith’s house: Peral came back to the trashed house.
- Used “Beck and air”: Peral cast a cantrip to create a breeze and circulate the stagnant air.
- Started tossing trash: While creating a breeze, Peral began to throw the trash out of the way.
- Was unhelpful in reconstructing the portal: Peral was also described as getting in the way during the reconstruction.
- Ran through the reconstructed portal: Following a coin flip decision, Peral ran through the portal and slammed into the trash on the other side.
- Looked at his book for clues about the portal: Peral was asked to examine his book for information on constructing such portals.
- Was slow at reading: It was noted that Peral reads slowly.
Phil (the DM):
- Narrated the scene and the actions of the NPCs.
- Described the environment and the effects of spells and actions.
- Made rulings on checks and saving throws.
- Controlled the behavior of the NPCs (Gear, Smith, Mrs. Wasowski, Mr. Wasowski).
- Provided information about Sigil and the nature of the portals.
- Facilitated the gameplay and kept the story moving.
- Introduced elements of humor and horror into the session.
- Implied information about the nature of the reconstructed portal through descriptions.
- Did not want to narrate the graphic details of Verona’s charmed encounter, leaving it to the player’s imagination.
- Made a coin flip determine the outcome of Peral going through the portal.
- Revealed information from Personal’s book when prompted.
