Session 5 - "Take the Elevator Down & Dissolve Me"

Session 5 – “Take the Elevator Down & Dissolve Me”

  • Before the adventuring party, entered the old treasury building to meet with Jarl Boar about their next job, one party member, Barca, busked on the street while the others shopped. Barca, a changeling, was able to change his appearance to that of a tall, dark-haired Asian woman. While busking, Barca received 5 gold from a well-dressed woman who whispered in his ear asking if he did “private performances”.

  • Barca, still in his female disguise, then approached a shady-looking person in an alley to inquire about purchasing a magic item. After the interaction took an unexpected turn, Barca stabbed the person in the genitals with a dagger. The person died and Barca fled the scene, changing his appearance back to his dragonborn form. When Barka rejoined the party, they could not detect anything different about his appearance or smell. The party then heard screams coming from the direction of the alley where Barka killed the person. One party member, Varak, investigated the commotion and discovered guards investigating the scene. Varak unsuccessfully attempted to convince a guard to pay him to find the killer. Then catches back up to the party.

  • The party then entered the old treasury building to meet Jarl Boar.

  • Rat guys that any magic items he find he turns into a special guard group
  • The adventuring party’s name is Morning Wood.
  • The party is exploring Bore Hole 18x.
  • If a party member dies, their body will be preserved and used in the tours. Their next of kin will receive 50 gold.
  • The party’s objective is to clear the cave. The previous adventuring party died in the cave.
  • The cave was dug by “slave children” paid “a decent wage” to buy fruit.
  • The party cannot keep any magic items found in the cave. They must be given to a group that works with the guards.
  • Famous Boar’s name is Jarl Boar. He is a ratatosk from the Northern Sanction. He witnessed the genocide of his village 30 years prior.
  • Bob died in the service elevator crash.
  • The cave smells like ozone.

  • Battle: The sources detail a battle with a gelatinous cube encountered in Bore Hole 18x. The cube is described as:

    • See-through, making it easy to walk into unknowingly.
    • Slow-moving.
    • Acidic, causing acid damage to those engulfed.
    • Durable. It withstood numerous attacks, including daggers, arrows, holy word spells, and an ELD blast. Throwing a lit bullsye lantern caused a small amount of fire damage, but it is unclear if fire is particularly effective.
    • Able to reform. After Auren body dissolved, the cube returned to its perfect form, free of damage and any trace of the objects it consumed.
    • Susceptible to piercing damage. Barka’s daggers, which inflicted piercing damage, seemed to be the most effective. Creating a star-shaped hole in the cube with his daggers ultimately caused the cube to erupt.

The party was ill-prepared for this encounter, lacking knowledge of the cube’s weaknesses and proper equipment. This resulted in the deaths of three party members:

    • Auren was engulfed and dissolved by the cube. (Death)
    • Varak was knocked unconscious by the cube’s pseudopod attack.

It appears that the party’s best strategy would have been to attack the cube from range using piercing weapons, given its slow movement speed. The effectiveness of fire remains ambiguous, but it is worth exploring in future encounters.
